For the past 40 years I was a business owner in the fabricated structural steel segment of the commercial building industry. Our manufacturing facility in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport had many complex structural steel machines that provided me an opportunity to learn all aspects of hydraulic systems along with internal combustion engines.

Replace missing or broken shear pins

Replace worn or broken pull cord rope

COMMON LAWN MOWER PROBLEMS:

ENGINE PROBLEMS:

Engine does not start (most likely no spark or fuel delivery )

Engine runs but has no power (most likely low compression or bad valves)

Engine starts for a few seconds then quits  (most likely a dirty carburetor)

Engine runs for 20 to 40 minutes then quits  (most likely a bad ignition coil)

Engine speed fluctuates up and down (most likely water or dirt in carburetor)

Engine burns white clouds of smoke when running  (most likely to much oil in engine)

Engine knocks when running  (most likely bent blade or worn connecting rod)

MOWER PROBLEMS:

Mower drive does not work (most likely bad engagement cable, loose or broken drive belt)

Mower moves well on flat surface but fails on inclines (most likely worn or stretched drive belt)

Mower drive wheels grind when engaged (most likely broken drive gear or roll pin in gearbox)

Mower does not throw grass clippings well (most likely mower deck clogged with wet grass and debris)

Mower cuts uneven (most likely  front and back wheels  of mower not adjusted evenly)

Mower cuts grass poorly (most likely dull or bent blade)

LAWN TRACTOR PROBLEMS:

Tractor does not start (most likely weak battery, loose connection, shorted wire or bad safety switch)

Tractor engine quits when engaging mower deck (most likely shorted wire or bad safety switch)
